What does it mean to create an opera on Surinamese soil, shaped by European classical traditions and rooted in Surinamese stories? Theater artist Mathieu Wijdeven explores what Het Pand der Goden still has to say to us today, more than a century later.

In January 2027, Philip Glass turns ninety — a milestone being celebrated worldwide with concerts, operas and festivals. Nederlandse Reisopera joins forces with Club Guy & Roni and the Noord Nederlands Orkest to present Waiting for the Barbarians: a theatrical explosion in which singers, dancers and a massive orchestra perform Glass’s late masterpiece.

In the performance, Nik Rajšek (1993, Slovenia) explores control on stage as both a driving force and a point of collapse. The body twists, retreats, and asserts itself in a constant tension between dominance and surrender. Movement and music alternate and shape each other in an evolving dialogue. Being watched becomes both a threat and a thrill, a reaction to the discomfort of exposure and the secret pleasure of wanting more.

ShELFISH and Grand4 welcome you to a work in progress of the first steps taken towards Archive of a Lonely Body. This presentation kicks off a multi-year social-artistic research project culminating in an installation that explores the movement history of displaced and migrating bodies. During this first residency ShELFISH-dancer Olympia Kotopoulos collaborates with multidisciplinary artists Soyun Park and Rawan Khater. Together they research and experiment with sound, movement and architecture in an archival nature.
